Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about residential EV charger installation in West Michigan homes.
What does a home EV charger installation include?
A typical home EV charger installation includes assessing your panel capacity, running a new dedicated 240V circuit to where you want the charger mounted, installing the charger (either hardwired or on a NEMA 14-50 outlet), and testing the connection. Some installs also need a panel or service capacity upgrade. Every home is different, so we provide a firm, no-obligation quote after the site visit.
What EV charger brands do you install?
We install all major Level 2 home chargers including Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint Home Flex, Wallbox Pulsar Plus, Enphase, Grizzl-E, and JuiceBox. If you’ve already bought a charger, we can install it. If you haven’t, we’ll recommend a model that fits your EV and your home.
Should I get a hardwired or plug-in EV charger?
Hardwired chargers connect directly to a dedicated circuit and can pull the full 48 amps most EVs accept. Plug-in chargers use a NEMA 14-50 outlet and cap around 40 amps, but they come with you if you move. For a permanent setup, hardwired charges faster and is the better fit for outdoor installs under current code. We recommend the right option based on your charger and where you want to mount it.
Can you install my charger in the garage or outside?
Both. We install Level 2 chargers in garages, on exterior walls, in carports, and on pedestals at the end of driveways. Our outdoor installs use weatherproof enclosures and follow current Michigan code, so your charger handles lake effect snow, ice, and everything else our winters bring.
Will installing a Level 2 EV charger raise my electric bill?
Yes, though less than most people expect, and charging at home costs considerably less per mile than gasoline. The monthly impact depends on your rate, how much you drive, and your charger settings. Consumers Energy also rewards off-peak charging through its PowerMIDrive program, and we can point you to the EV rate options available on your utility during the site visit.
Do you install chargers for non-Tesla EVs?
Yes. We install chargers for every EV brand, including Ford, GM, Hyundai, Kia, BMW, Mercedes, Rivian, and Lucid. Most non-Tesla EVs use the J1772 plug standard, now transitioning to SAE J3400, and we install compatible chargers. Tesla owners can use a Wall Connector or any J1772 charger with the included adapter.
